The NDP leadership race is on, and progressive people from across Canada will soon be coming together to flex their political muscle – and choose who our voice will be in Ottawa. You need to be a member by August 17th to be a part of it, so make sure to sign up or renew your membership ASAP. Members should keep an eye out for a voting package from us in early September. Inside, you’ll find everything you need to vote. Hang onto this information – it’s important. On September 17th, watch the Leadership showcase – it’s your last opportunity to hear from the candidates before voting begins. September 18th – time to vote! We encourage you to vote online – it’s easy, secure, and it will let you be a part of the action every step of the way! All the information you need is in your voting package, and you can vote from your computer, tablet, or smartphone in seconds. We’ll also send you a paper ballot, just in case. If you’re going to vote by mail, simply rank your preferences from one to four and put the ballot into the envelope that comes with your package. Make sure your vote counts – drop your ballot into a mailbox by September 18th and you’ll be good to go – no stamp required. Once we receive your ballot, your vote will be locked in – and you can sit back, relax, and watch the results come in. If you’re voting online, log in using the password provided in your voting package anytime after 10 AM Eastern time on September 18th. Rank your preferences from one to four and submit them. Voting will close at 2PM Eastern time on October 1st. Now here’s where things will really start to heat up – we’ll be announcing the results of the first ballot on October 1st. If any one candidate receives more than half of the votes, they’re our new leader. If not, the candidate with the least number of votes will be eliminated and the remaining candidates will advance to the second ballot. Voting will reopen for online voters only. You decide – do you want to change your vote on the next ballot? If so, you can log in with your voting credentials before 2 PM the following Sunday, October 8th. If you don’t log back in, your rankings from the previous round of voting will stand. We may have a new leader after the second ballot results are announced, or we may have one more ballot to go! The process is the same, with the third ballot results scheduled for October 15th. This is going to be an exciting election, and the stakes are high. Make sure to keep an eye on these key dates so you don’t miss out on the opportunity to flex your political muscle, and visit ndp.ca to learn more.
